South Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place. My brother-in-law lives there and owns a restaurant called The Burger Lounge which, yes, gets a shameful plug from me in the pages of "Dark Hunger." My husband and I visited Lake Tahoe several years ago and I fell in love, which is why I wanted to set at least part of my book there. Parts of the next book, "Dark Passion" are also set in South Lake Tahoe.
I thought I'd share with you some images of sites and attractions in the Lake area that you'll find in the pages of the Brethren series.
This, for example, is Vikingsholm, the historic home that fronts Emerald Bay off the south shore of the lake. In "Dark Hunger," Tessa and Brandon play tourist here for the day. Vikingsholm is also the scene of one of the climactic show-downs between Tessa and her arch nemesis, Monica Davenant.
Here's another shot of Vikingsholm, as seen from the shore, not the water. In this image, you can see the second story windows through which Monica throws Tessa during their fight.
In this image at right, you'll see the interior of Vikingsholm. Note the unusual decorative "dragon" beam over the doorway. This item plays a key role in the fight between Tessa and Monica in "Dark Hunger."
At left is a detail of the "dragon" beam.
This is the Burger Lounge, my brother-in-law's restaurant in South Lake Tahoe.
And this is a closer view of its distinctive "beer mug" shaped roadside sign, which is also mentioned in "Dark Hunger."
