I like Tortured Heroes. Really Tortured, much like Brandon was. I also like them really mentally tortured. But I like it to make them misunderstood so they come across as macho alpha men with attitude.
Speaking of, Dark Thrist is the only book I've read by you so far. I just bought Dark Hunger for my kindle, can't wait to start on that one. Do you have any other tortured heroes? I have a site thats been up maybe a week and a half (with over 300 hits already, devoted strictly to tortured heroes.
I kept hearing how everyone loves them but no one labels their books that way and its not always in the blurb, making it hard to find. My site tries to give everyone one place.
I also have an authors annoucement board, so if you release any more books with tortured heroes, or you have some old ones that fit this, feel free to post them!
My HEA was alpha when I met him...24 years ago...shhh don't tell...but now he is a Hybrid of both...I believe that real men...(literally speaking) are or would like to be Alpha..its all about the Caveman thing...me Tarsan you Jane...LOL...but with any relationship over time you have a blending when real love comes into play. ......... Or all that could be Bull **** and I am just one of the lucky ones to find a true love....anyway just my opinion...:)
The strange thing is that my HEA is Beta while I like them Alpha ....

My writing tends to have heroines -- decidedly alpha females, so my male protagonists are more supportive than dominating. Not to say they're wimps, but they are enlarged and extended by their female companions.
These may be exceptions in that romance isn't the main thrust of the novels, but relationships and love affairs are a strong second line.

Which kind of hero do you prefer: alpha males or beta males?
For those unfamiliar with the terms: Alpha males are the stereotypical romance hero. Think Heathcliff from "Wuthering Heights" -- Strong, assertive, dominant, brave, maybe emotionally wounded and distant. He's a softie at heart, but doesn't demonstrate that to just anyone, and usually butts heads with his heroine long before revealing his more tender side.
Beta males are nice guys, charming and sensitive. He can be assertive when necessary, but it's by choice, not nature. Although not a wimp, he's nowhere near as assertive or aggressive as alpha males, and does not necessarily dominate in his relationship with the heroine. Think Will Turner in "Pirates of the Caribbean."
There are also the "hybrid" heroes, those who combine the assertive strength of the Alpha male while exhibiting the sensitivity and charm of the Beta hero.
So which do you prefer? Feel free to tell us why, too!
