Writing for a cause -- and YOU can help!

I'm proud to be participating in this year's Unleash Your Story fund drive to benefit cystic fibrosis research. From their website: "Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a devastating genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. More than ten million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. Advances continue to be made in finding a cure, but your help is needed now-more than ever-to help keep up the momentum of this life-saving research. To learn more about CF and the CF Foundation, visit Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those with cystic fibrosis. Thank you for supporting the mission of the CF Foundation!"

As a personal addendum, while I don't personally know anyone with cystic fibrosis, as a mother, I couldn't help but be moved by the real-life story of Chance, son of author Claire Autrey, which she shared on the Unleash Your Story homepage. I'm honored to be part of such a wonderful, supportive and creative endeavor and hope that the money we all generate together helps insure boys and girls just like Chance the opportunities for healthy, happy futures.

As part of the Unleash Your Story challenge, I must not only set a monetary fundraising goal for myself, but a writing goal as well. I must strive to achieve both goals by the end of September. While most writers are pledging to produce a certain word count in that period of time, since I'm kind of in limbo at the moment in between works-in-progress, I'm setting a different kind of goal. Between now and the end of September, I'm going to research, outline, draft and polish a complete synopsis of 10-15 pages detailing a new urban fantasy manuscript. This will be a completely new idea for me, not based on any preceding manuscripts, characters or cities, thus I'll be literally starting from scratch. This process normally takes me around four to six weeks; I'm aiming to nail it in less than that.

As for monetary goals, well, that's where YOU come in. I'm aiming low -- to raise $150 between now and the end of the month. If you'd like to pledge a couple of bucks in support of not only my writing goal, but cystic fibrosis research, just visit my pledge page here and make your donation safely online. I hope you'll consider pledging.
