Hi

Like most of you the ending of Dark Hunguer bothered me a lot. I could not believe René had betrayed Brandon like that and I wrote to sara to tell her too.

But I'm not giving up on her wotk no way :)

Now I want otknow what will happened next :)

Immediately after finishing Dark Hunger (at 2 a.m.) I was so insensed that I wrote to Sara regarding her ending evileye

. The book itself was very good and kept me reading till the end with a couple of bathroom runs. I will probably read the next book just to see if Brandon's life can be righted. But I can honestly say that if this doesn't turn around it will be the last book of her's that I do read. I read to feel good not depressed. I think Sara Reinke is a very gifted writer and gracious person, but the ending has many inherit problems. A twin wouldn't be able to forgive the betrayal of Brandon, even though he thought he was protecting her and her child. I know Rene's life got messed up with the removal of his leg but earlier he came across as a loyal and principled friend, what kind of friend could allow another to be tortured in order to "save" someone else. The ending goes against that as well. I'm hoping the next book is less depressing. Sara please don't disapoint.

Thanks, Nikana. :) I admit, I had the idea for the ending in mind even before I started writing "Dark Hunger." I debated using it because I knew it would be polarizing -- readers would either love it or hate it. Of course I love to hear that readers approve of the ending -- but I can definitely understand those who say they don't.

If it helps, it was a hard scene to write. But without giving spoilers (I hope), I personally think the character involved did what they thought was best; the only choice they felt they had -- and they honestly believed that the other character would be strong enough to handle the circumstances into which they are abruptly placed.

Was it a good choice on the character's part? I don't think so -- and I can definitely see where readers would be disappointed in it, angry at the choice made...not to mention at me for choosing it, too, LOL. All I ask is not to give up on me yet! There's more to the ending than meets the eye...

Speaking of which, if you haven't read the alternate ending point and deleted scene yet, they're here on this message board and might offer at least a smidge more insight.

It's easy to say, "OMG I HATED THAT ENDING!!" and, to be quite honest. I did. I can't see Rene resolving this with Tessa or Lina. But, that's not my job, Sara, it's yours. wink

And, whether he does or not, is your decision. Granted, I sure do want this fixed but...well, we'll see, won't we?

That's the point. We want to see, oh yes we do. That's what made this a great book. Kept me on pins and needles through the whole thing and there was absolutely NO closure at the end. That means I am going to wait patiently to see what's next. I, like so many others, love a good cliffhanger. To me that's what the ending was.

"Holy s*i!, what is gonna happen next since he did this!..."

"...Tune in next book to find out."

Kudos to you Sara, for writing a damn good book and having the guts to NOT give it a cookie cutter ending.

I think Tessa will have a VERY hard time forgiving Rene...no matter how "honourable" his intentions were. I know I would. Hopefully it'll take some time for her to forgive his betrayal (no matter the "whys" of said betrayal). Personally, I was betrayed some time back by the one I'd loved the most...he'd claimed it was for us & his intentions were good. All that did was include me in the guilt he'd had and I could see the character Tessa sharing that guilt.

The ending wasn't really an ending...just a segue into the next book which will hopefully be available soon, otherwise I'm concerned that some readers will have forgotten all the variables that came into play at the end of "Dark Hunger".

The book (like the first installment) was very well-written & I feel deserves more of what I consider "Promo Time" from the publisher.

I loved the ending, but I can't wait to see what happends next. I thought that Rene was an honorable man, but after what he did to Brandon and Lina, I'm not sure he deserves Tessa's love. He betrayed Brandon and Lina's trust and eventhough he did it for love he has betrayed Tessa. He never gave it a second thought that Tessa had risked everything to begin with in order to help her twin. He will be hard pressed to make either of the women understand what he has done when they find out about it and they will. I think Tessa and Lina are going to proove that a woman's determination will not be beat, they will do what Rene never thought they would be able to do. They will beat the odds and they will rescue Brandon, for love and for family honor which is something I'm having a problen thinking that Rene understands. If Rene doen't loose his best friend Lina and his lover Tessa it will be a surprise. He thought he was lonely before, he has no idea how lonely things are going to get.

I have responded to Ms. Reinke privately through email before I joined this forum, so I will share my thoughts will all of you. I enjoyed the ending, however my heart is still stuck in my throat. I am a fan of Brandon's and Rene and I was shocked at what Rene did. I am loyal, however to Brandon's character. My first questions were what will the Elders do to Brandon? What will happen to Lina? What if she's pregnant or maybe they secretly go married and didn't tell Tessa and Rene? How will Tessa and Lina deal with this betrayal because they will find out. Lina can smell BS a mile a way. I know that Brandon may get over the betrayal of Rene because he would want to protect his sister as well, but I think Rene should have talk with everyone before giving Brandon up. I can't wait until book 3.
